
Dawson Hull is a pianist, composer, and conductor living in Memphis, TN. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano from the University of Memphis, a Master’s Degree in Piano from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano and Theory/Composition from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. He was invited as a guest artist to premiere his compositions at the International Clarinet Association 2019 ClarinetFest and as part of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s 2020 Chamber series. Dawson has appeared as soloist with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Delta Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Samford University Orchestra, Southeastern Chamber Orchestra, the Omulgee Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
Dawson was a recipient of the Betty H. Miller/Betty Sue Shepherd Scholarship at Samford University and was also awarded a Graduate Assistantship in Music Theory at Peabody Conservatory as well as a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the University of Memphis, where he taught aural theory classes. He has studied piano with Alice Adams Jackson, Betty Sue Shepherd, Thomas Hecht, Marian Hahn, Eric Zuber, and Cathal Breslin. As a composer, he has written orchestral, chamber, choral, and solo works and studied under Dr. Ronald Boud, Dr. James Jensen, and Bob Burroughs.
In 2022, Dawson released his first album along with his wife, Taneea Hull (clarinet), titled Reflections. The album consists of original arrangements of hymns for clarinet and piano, written in a classical style.
Dawson frequently performs solo and chamber recitals throughout the mid-south. He is the founder of the Masterpiece Concert Series in Germantown, TN, which provides free classical concerts to the community. He has most recently appeared in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Awadagin Pratt, Enid Katahn, Santiago Rodriguez, Yakov Kasman, Jon Kimura Parker, and Yael Weiss.
Dawson is the Pastor of Instrumental Worship Arts at Germantown Baptist Church where he leads the Conservatory of Music, orchestra, jazz band, and student choir. Previously, he was the Minister of Instrumental Music and Director of the School of the Arts at Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. Dawson is married to Taneea Hull and they enjoy performing together throughout the southeast.
